Christmas is a time that can feel lonely for some, and Thistle Court Care Home does everything they can to make their residents (referred to as ‘family members’) a part of their community. Joy, a family member from the home went with a team member to the Dunelm Cwmbran store to celebrate the ‘Delivering Joy’ initiative, which involves members of the public taking tags from a Christmas tree in the store with a gift wish from someone from the local community, and returning the tag with a gift to be delivered to that person.

Tracey Baker, a member of the team at Thistle Court said “We cannot thank Dunelm Cwmbran enough for choosing Thistle Court to be part of their Delivering Joy Campaign. We went down this afternoon and took our family member Joy, who thoroughly enjoyed the outing (and did a spot of shopping for herself) to pick up some of the beautiful gifts that have been purchased by the lovely people of the local community”.

For Thistle Court, outings like this are a continuation of the lives residents have always lived, not an exception. The perception that moving into a care home means being confined indoors is far from the reality in the Cwmbran home. Residents are supported to carry on with the activities they’ve always enjoyed, within reason, ensuring life remains as fulfilling and engaging as possible. Whether it’s going out to do some Christmas shopping or enjoying other meaningful experiences, these outings help residents stay connected to their community and maintain a sense of normality and purpose in everyday life.
