Care Home Open Day at Cwmbran’s Thistle Court Care Home

Thistle Court Care Home, in the heart of Cwmbran, hosted an Alice in Wonderland themed tea party for the scene of Care Home Open Day.    The care home was honoured to welcome two local Torfaen County Borough Council councillors, Mandy Owen and Rose Seabourne, who visited the home to meet with residents (fondly referred to as family members).

A Warm Welcome and Guided Tour

The Open Day began with a warm welcome for Councillor Owen and Councillor Seabourne. They were welcomed to Thistle Court and shown around, starting with the sensory room, a calming and stimulating room which can have relaxing benefits and enhance cognitive skills.  The councillors were impressed with the recent refurbishments, especially the apple tree mural and mock shop.

Councillor Owen fondly remembered a time when she visited the care home a few years back, remarking on how welcoming the atmosphere feels with the new refurbishment.

Alice in Wonderland Tea Party

The highlight of the day was the Alice in Wonderland-themed afternoon tea. The dining area was filled with cakes, Wonderland-themed tablecloths, matching plates, cups and masks. Several family members gathered in the main dining area, while others enjoyed the celebration from the lounges.  Events like these build a sense of community and encourage social interaction, which can enhance emotional well-being and strengthen connections among family members.

Musical Delight

There was a special performance by one of the talented team members, Stella Adibe Rumi, who charmed the room with her beautiful singing voice.  Such events encourage team and family members to connect and engage with each other, building relationships beyond the typical carer-resident dynamic.
